Gram Bikash Shohayak Shangstha (GBSS) is a non-political, non-profit, and non-government organization (NGO) established in 1988. Based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, GBSS has been working tirelessly for over 36 years to improve the socio-economic conditions of poor and marginalized communities. Our mission is to create a society where every individual, regardless of gender, disability, or social status, can live with dignity, self-reliance, and access to opportunities.
GBSS operates with a vision to empower distressed men, women, and people with disabilities by organizing them into groups for participatory self-reliance. We focus on promoting political, social, and economic empowerment, particularly for those who are often excluded from mainstream development. Our programs span a wide range of areas, including women’s empowerment, education for children and people with disabilities, health and hygiene, environmental conservation, and disaster response.
